Craigmore is committed to developing innovative ways to improve water use efficiency and manage local impacts on water quality. Now thanks to a partnership with Amuri Irrigation Company, two farms in Culverden have extended their programme of waterway preservation with the construction of a new wetland at Landsend Farm and a bioreactor at Riverend Farm. The two-hectare wetland at Landsend, located in a historically wet area, features a three-pond system to reduce incoming water nitrate levels exceeding 11 mg/m³. This winter, 1,500 Carex plants will be planted, with more to come next year. Additionally, a 40-metre-long bioreactor has been installed at Riverend Farm, which will filter high-nitrate water using woodchips. Water conservation and preservation are key initiatives for Craigmore. To achieve this on farm, enhancing and protecting healthy ecosystems in streams and waterways is essential. These projects demonstrate the commitment of the Craigmore farming team in their aspiration to lead the way in farming through improving the environment and how we care for our people and animals.
