Craigmore Sustainables has continued its commitment to sustainable forest management by extending Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certification across its Wairarapa forestry estate. Farman Turkington Forestry (FTF) has now received FSC® certification for four additional Craigmore forests in the region, building on the initial certification of a single forest in 2022. The Wairarapa certification marks an important milestone in the development of the forestry portfolio, increasing the total number of FSC‑certified Craigmore forests to 14, including certified properties in Northland. FSC certification is an internationally recognised, independent standard that verifies responsible forest management in line with environmental, social and economic principles. The process is rigorous and involves comprehensive scrutiny of forest operations, systems, community engagement, and environmental outcomes. The standards place emphasis on protecting biodiversity, maintaining soil and water quality, reducing chemical use, and engaging with neighbours, iwi, and local communities. As global demand for timber, engineered wood and bio‑based products continues to grow, markets are increasingly prioritising sustainably produced fibre sourced from independently verified supply chains, particularly in premium uses where sustainability credentials are essential for market access. Craigmore’s Forestry General Manager, John Barker, says the expanded certification reinforces the business’s long-term sustainability commitments. “Extending FSC certification across our Wairarapa estate provides assurance to our investors and partners that these forests are being managed to the highest standards. We work with managers who share our values, and FTF’s commitment to achieving and maintaining certification aligns strongly with our approach to professional, sustainable forestry,” said John. For FTF Director, Guy Farman, the expansion of certification reflects the maturity of forest management systems and a strong focus on continuous improvement. “Getting four more forests FSC-certified took a real team effort, and it’s been rewarding knowing we’re doing things right. It’s given us confidence that we’re looking after these forests well, supporting our stakeholders, and protecting long-term value for investors.” said Guy. The expansion of FSC certification reflects Craigmore’s commitment to acting as responsible kaitiaki of the land, while strengthening confidence for investors and stakeholders. Published: 7 May 2026
