We encourage you to check-in to your flights in advance. You can do this 24-hours prior to departure on the Air New Zealand app which can be downloaded to all smart phones. You need your Air New Zealand booking reference which is on your travel itinerary.
Number of endangered animal and plant species
Prior to your arrival in New Zealand, you will be asked to complete a traveller declaration form. This is a new online declaration process – previously you would have completed a physical arrival card.
You are required to declare the contents of your luggage including of a number of prohibited items, which are considered to be a potential risk to New Zealand (e.g. foodstuffs, plants, animal medicines).
You will also be asked if you have footwear which has been used for walking or hiking in rural areas and any other items used for outdoor activities. These will be inspected, and if not spotlessly clean, taken away to be cleaned. Failure to declare any such footwear may result in a fine and their confiscation.

The earliest you can submit your declaration is 24 hours before your start your trip. It must be submitted by the time you reach passport control in New Zealand.
