For 20 years the deer were intensively farmed exclusively on the Papamoa 286 hectare flood irrigated property, and 10 years ago a partnership agreement was dissolved and 600 red hinds were brought from Papamoa to Craigmore to join the 200 strong herd of Elk/Wapiti deer at Craigmore.
It is the intention of Craigmore to move deer numbers upwards at Craigmore and reduce sheep numbers, enabling a balance in the immediate future of 1/3 sheep 1/3 cattle and 1/3 deer with a longer term aim to proceed to, say, 50% deer 30% beef and 20% sheep.
