Original imports were from Illinois in the United States, and the enterprise now employs a full time management and part time staffing, flowers are exported to, particularly, United States and Europe.
The enterprise now has two hectares of peonies containing 10,000 plants.
The choice of original plantings was well researched by Fiona. Importations
of other varieties were well selected by Eve Rudkin owner/manager for 3 years,
and the past manager Kathryn Hill.

The named varieties of commercial quality cutflower peonies are in strong demand by New Zealand gardeners and professional growers.
The reason the Elworthy family established a horticultural unit in 1981 on the Craigmore pastoral property, was to test whether permanent and part time employment could be provided for people, particularly women living in the Maungati and surrounding local districts. Fiona was also keen to have diversification into products other than meat and wool.
