While studying, Peter worked on a number of farms including Castlepoint Station, Wairarapa, Waitangihia Station, Gisborne, and Opal Dairy Farm, Taupo. In 2014, Peter was Farm Manager of Kowhai Vale and Lucas Bay Farms (675 ha) on the Banks Peninsula. Of note was a flock of 2000 Pitt Island Wild Sheep, which were kept for wool and to sell to lifestyle farmers wanting a low-cost easy-care sheep with a story. In 2011 Peter was the winner of the World Young Shepherd Competition in Oamaru. An active member of NZ Young Farmers Peter is the current Chairman of Christchurch City Young Farmers Club.
In addition to this, Peter is in the final stages of his PhD using mathematical programming to investigate inter-relationships between sheep livestock systems, feed conversion efficiency, feed demand seasonality and economic optima. Peter’s immediate plans for sheep beef and grazing are to consolidate information for each farm and set up long-term farm plans using Farmax software.
